TC Flexi-Levels Training

IND   How the Levels work, housekeeping, etc

1 Name reflex: dog knows its name and turns head willingly when called
1 Collar grab: dog allow collar to be grabbed and held by handler

Put collar, lead and harness on and off calmly without resistance or

avoidance, also ID tag, microchip check

Dog will willingly engage in play with handler with a toy, on or off

lead but under control

Allow handler to stroke all parts of the body, on or off lead, under

close control

Sit beside handler on loose lead, inside, and stay in position for five

seconds before being rewarded/released

Walk beside handler on loose lead, ten paces, inside without distractions

Walk 20 paces on loose lead outside with distractions (other dogs,

wheelchair, bicycle, person with ball etc)

3 Steps back and waits at doorway when asked

3 Allow known other person to open mouth and look in ears

Basic stress signs – lip licking, head turn, yawn, sweaty paws, 

shake-off etc

Stand on command and stay in position for 3 seconds before being

released, handler two paces away

Down on command; stay in position for 10 seconds, lead dropped,

Walk 50 paces on loose lead outside with distractions as above, including

turns and halt with sit at heel (eg, crossing the road)

4 Allow handler to lift and flex legs

Allow known other person to inspect pads and hold nails as for

clipping

Dog will give up toy, perform one exercise (sit), then re-engage in play

Approaches to other dogs – curvy –v- stiff, tail carriage, pilo-erection,

ear carriage, pauses, look-aways

5 Walk on loose lead with treats on floor

5 Proprioception - get on the box, get in the box, with/without lure

and walk around dog before releasing

Recall, outside, no distractions, 20 paces away, held (long line for

safety)

6 Allow strange person to open mouth and look in ears

Warning signs – freeze, whale eye, snarl, growl (inc don't punish the

growl)

6 Chin rest on chair or similar as appropriate, handler able to touch body
6 Leave food on coffee table – walk past and recall away
6 Walk on loose lead through temptation alley, inc food and toys
6 Retrieve any article to hand; wait before being sent

Down stay 2 minutes, during which there are distractions:

  - handler talks to other person ten paces away, back turned to dog

  - handler goes and sits on a chair for ten seconds

  - also other distractions: people moving around

6 Proprioception - front legs only on box, back legs only on box
   
7 Recall, inside, from stay (Novice) with present and finish
7 Recall to heel (Test A)
7 Allow strange person to inspect pads and hold nails as for clipping
7 Allow strange person to lift and flex legs
7 Play signs (-ve) – "T" shape, barging, chasing, humping, pinning

Chin rest with known other person doing fake injection and using

otoscope

Chin rest with handler pretending to give eye drops and ear drops

Targets mat when released, fifteen paces away ("Go to bed") and settles,

Wears a cone or buster collar as appropriate to breed, without distress

Walk at handler's side without lead through temptation alley, inc food

and toys

8 Proprioception - front legs on box, rotate back legs around both ways

Trick - one of:  (more than one encouraged but not necessary to pass

the level)

  a)    spin 360 degrees clockwise plus 360 degrees anti-clockwise
  b)    bow, bend or curtsey (play bow) on command
 

c)    say please (sit pretty)

       (only if appropriate for breed/body shape/fitness level)

  d)    rollover - complete rollover on one command or signal
  e)    peekaboo - dog walks between handlers legs at least five paces
   
9 Walk 50 paces off lead in outside safe area with distractions
9

Stays settled with or without mat 5 minutes, handler out of sight with

distractions known venue

9 Stops on recall outside
9 Scent work - finds known toy inside, no indication
9 Send away to cone inside, two different placements of cone
9 Tricks: minimum two of list in Level 8 plus one of the following:
  a)    clearing up - pick up toys/rubbish and put in box/bin
  b)    play dead - pretend to be shot
  c)    give each front paw on correct cue to hand or foot
  d)    push a ball / toy cube using nose at least three feet
  e)    wipe your feet - dog wipes at least front feet on towel or mat

ASSESSMENT (subject to Silver pass) (£20)

Stays on mat 5 minutes, handler in sight with distractions unknown

e)    ride a skateboard, at least two pushes with back leg for momentum
